shocked to learn that the wait is getting longer! now I am truly SHOCKED!
"Jo poora doob gava, usko thandee nahin laagva re!"
poorly translates to english "Does it get any colder, for one who is already drowned?"
Shocked to learn that even after CIR or SKIL passes, we will have to wait 8 yrs to get our GCs. If that wasn't shocking I wonder what else would be:confused:
In your example, its like saving him from drowning, giving him first aid and then throwing him to the sharks!!!

thank you very much for the info.
I will check Joe Hohenstein out to see whether he is interested in my case!
- Joe Hohenstein's Law Firm Orlow & Orlow is in Philadelphia, and typically represents clients
in the Northeast. Joe can take individual emails at joe@orlow.com;
because there may be a lot of emails, please allow for a delay in the
response. If the questions are get to be more detailed, he would talk
about treating them as an initial consultation, which is $100.

I cannot get the approved 140 notice from the employer, so trying to see if I can get it from somewhere else.
You can also locate the priority date in the I-140 approval notice.

IV core shud approach republicans who are saying no amnesty to law breakers.
Let us approach them and convince them to bring amendments to reward law abiding people like us.
Great point.. core team should develop a strategy and share it with entire group as to how they are working towards getting these ammendments in and whom are they approaching ....

We should start somewhere to get heard. But again the media, government has too many other important issues to deal with and our issues may fall on deaf ears. We should still continue to make noise with a hope that we will get noticed.

You should apply for a SSN. If you find a job, the employer will ask you to fill-up a W4 Form. To set you up in company payroll, SSN would be a requirement.
Also, as some other people have mentioned, even if you don't plan to work, you should still get a SSN to establish your credit history.
Applying for a SSN and getting it and has NO impact on your immigration status.

Guys,
This is election time and no immigration bills will be taken seriously until mid next year. Let us stay calm and cool.
Still have friends from EB2 2002/03 not gotten their GCs...
Patience is the key.
Election time....immigration issue has zero value

Hello,
I am in a same situation, this happened to me on wednesday. I have I-140 approved and lost job. In H1B on my 4.5 year.
With the new company hiring should i start the process all new? File new PERM right from the scratch?
Kindly advise.
Thanks,
Immuser

I find it difficult to digest that parents ship their infant children to someone else to raise.
Shantanup:
Circumstances my friend...Circumstances
1. Either you dont have kids to understand
2. Or you are blessed/lucky enough to have great circumstances to raise your kids personally.
You have expressed your feeling that it is difficult to digest and I respect it. Thanks for voicing your opinion which BTW did not give me any information on what documents are required. Others have responded, Thanks to the responders and you too Shantanup!
It helps the situation when one asks for a question and one is able to answer instead of voicing ones own personal problem/opinion. Anyways I wish all well to you and hope you never have to ship your kids!!
Best Wishes, Mattresscoil!!

Legislatively, is there a way the bill can be revived? If so, can we involve the democrats by lobbying through the south asian/indian caucas?

background -
A friend is currently working full time with a large financial company where there are many layoffs going on. She has 140 approved, but her H1 is valid only till Sept 2009 (6 years complete; no date recoup possible).
H1 extension cannot be filed until 6 months prior to expiry i.e. Apr 2009.
questions -
If she gets laid off (next round of layoffs are expected in dec), can she still:
1) transfer her h1 (she is worried because many companies do not transfer if < 1 year is on h1), and simultaneously file for an H1 extension based on approved 140 from her current job?
2) file a new labor and port her PD from the approved 140?
3) if no to 1 or 2 - is it the end of the road? Can she transfer to H4 (on her husbands H1) and continue to stay here?
Thanks in advance!!

If he'll be receiving his paystubs for each pay period for next three months, he should still be in status.
Is the employer-employee relationship going to go on for 3 months? (ie. is he going to go to office, get paid at usual intervals etc)? If so, he is fine, he is in status. If he has been laid off, has no access to teh office anymore etc, then as far as H1-B goes, the employer-employee relationship has ended and he is out of status; he should transfer teh H1 asap.

Hi.
Most of us who filed during jul/aug 2007 got our FPs done later that year.
Aren't those FPs valid for only 15 months or so?
So have folks started receiving their second FP notice yet?
Thanks.
